Sierra Madre Vineyard and I have a long and successful history; I’ve been producing wines from SMV grapes since the mid-eighties, for good reason. The site is magical. It’s one of the coolest spots in the Santa Maria Valley. The amount of fog it receives during harvest and the fact that the soil is almost pure sand promotes fruit flavors true to the varieties. The acids are spectacular, providing a strong backbone to my wines and the way the site is farmed lends itself to mature fruit at lower sugars. Ideal.
Farming on sand isn’t easy, but Rodolfo has it dialed in and is a pleasure to work with. Doug is the most no-nonsense person I’ve ever met, while still maintaining a passion for his vineyard sites and the outcome of his toils. The team is perfect.

The Pinnacle Vineyards' beautifully elevated southwest facing slopes are just perfect for Bordeaux varieties. The fruit continually expresses good color, structure and flavor and can be used in a wide spectrum of programs. Doug Circle and his team (Bryan Wallingford and Ty Sabaska) have done a very good job of producing quality winegrapes. In addition, they are always timely in their management practices and do what it takes to accommodate their customers.

I’ve been purchasing Sierra Madre fruit from Doug Circle for four years, Pinot Gris for a still wine, and Chardonnay for my sparkling wine program. It’s one of the cooler sites in Santa Maria and the most northern vineyard I work with. The cool ocean air and fog and north-facing sloping vineyard allow the fruit exceptional acidity and brightness in the flavor profile, even at the low sugar levels, where I pick.
Working with Rodolfo and Doug is a great experience. Rodolfo is an excellent farmer and very flexible in meeting our needs. Doug is the consummate professional, has respect for what I’m trying to achieve and goes above and beyond to help get us there.

We have been working with Sierra Madre fruit since 2006, both as hired winemakers and for our own Falcone Family Vineyards brand. We have continued to purchase Chardonnay grapes because of the distinctive characters of Sierra Madre fruit. We enjoy working with both Vineyard Manager, Rodolfo Colado and owner, Doug Circle. Excellent communications and Circle's commitment to quality have allowed us to craft a beautiful product year after year.

Doug Circle farms the parcels of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that I purchase at a very high level, and together we produce very high quality, beautiful fruit. Doug works at a level of efficiency and integrity that allows for an excellent business relationship.
